Thoughts on a Movie: The Condemned

(This is an essay on the movie regarding the violations on Human Rights the movie portrayed)
The movie showed a great deal on how certain people would sometimes abuse their given powers, regardless of how others would be affected so long as they would benefit from it. It generally showed how others would take the rights of their fellowmen for granted, and how justice is delayed/disregarded.

Many violations on the human rights of the characters were portrayed in the movie. The beginning of the movie showed how some police/jail guards would abuse their powers. They were treating the prisoners like gamecocks in a cockpit, and not doing a thing to prevent it. And there was this wealthy television producer who purchased the prisoners who had the greatest ability to fight from various places; it was just like purchasing a brand of clothing. The prisoners in this part were deprived of their right to due process of law. They were sold without their consent, not even giving them a chance to agree or disagree, and shouldn’t there at least be a transaction between them, the government and this wealthy television producer, to at least ensure their safety or the benefits of their love ones in case of their death? And of course the clarification of their name in case they win and get freedom which is their prize?

At the other parts of the movie we could see the deprivation of life and liberty. The show they were in was clearly manipulated by the said producer. It’s a DO OR DIE GAME; they were clearly fighting for their lives and not just the freedom which was their so called prize. The producer simply left them no choice, they needed to fight with one another to live, clearly the prisoners were treated like objects, objects who would give entertainment to the people who would be able to log in and objects who are the source of millions of money for the wealthy television producer (isn’t this somehow a situation of involuntary servitude?). The right against cruel, degrading, or inhuman punishments was one of the violations, the part were the Asian and American would torture the Spanish/Mexican for fun showed how this right was violated, killing him slowly and letting him feel the pains is really inhuman even though he is a criminal no one has the right to do that to him. And this applies to all the prisoners in the movie, their presence there in that show seemed like their death sentence already.

We could always enjoy our rights, but we must also see our limitations and the right of others. Regardless of whoever he or she is and whatever race he is from he/she is still a human being who also has rights.
